Meet Mario

 I once started worked with a chef named Mario. He was your typical corporate steakhouse chef, been at it for years, always had a big team under him. He came to me because his weight was starting to interfere with his quality of life. He had trouble standing for the whole shift, he got winded easily, and he craved sugar obsessively. He was going down fast.


Working together, we made a plan for how to tackle the lifetime of bad habits he was living with. First on the list? Getting him to bed on time so that he got a good night’s sleep every night. Why is this so important to weight loss? Sleep controls so many systems in our body, including stress, and regulation of hunger hormones. Getting more sleep is key to maintaining a healthy weight.


Once Mario was sleeping better, other areas of his life started to ease up. He hadn’t realized how much sleep could affect him, and he felt better right away. We got him drinking more water, which is another instant energy boost. With all of this new energy, Mario was able to start planning for his meals at work, and taking a walk every morning before work.


Just these simple shifts in his life really added up. We have worked together for 7 months ( and counting!) and he has lost almost 25 pounds so far. Those pounds will stay off because he hasn’t just dieted them away- he has changed his whole way of thinking.

The problem with restrictive, extreme diets is that they aren’t sustainable. Especially for kitchen workers!
